At a Given Moment is a book about my father's childhood. When I was a child, before going to sleep, he told me 'stories from the past'. About the pranks he played or about the difference of his time compared to the time in which I grew up. It was my wish to record these stories for myself, and future generations.
By collecting as much data as possible (family trees, wedding photos, the story of the first meeting of his parents) I was able to place my father's stories in context (time, upbringing, place.) So instead of a collection of stories, the book had a beginning and an end. From concept, digitization, and paperweight, I was in control of every part of the process.
The book is about a boy growing up in the Utrecht neighborhood of Zuilen in the 1960s and 1970s; about how he remembers the common habits of that time, his family, and the memorable events of his childhood; what it was like in his time and their family.
